Rating (4.7/5)
If you know a thing or two about boats, especially in the realm of professional race boats, then you’ve heard of the Phoenix 920 Pro XP.
This boat is as close to perfection as you’ll find on the water today, with a boat length of more than 20 feet that offers plenty of storage space and a comfortable ride. With a maximum horsepower of 250HP, this boat is unique in its class, with short acceleration times and fast speed retention as its constant strengths.
I will cover several aspects of the Phoenix 920 Pro XP such as driving experience, ride, specification details, etc. If you are interested, you are welcome to read on. We would be honored to do so.
Driving Experience
My cousin Edmund has always been a thrill-seeker. He loves all challenging activities and recently he was introduced to the sport of rowing.
After doing some research, he decided to buy a used Phoenix 920 Pro XP as his first boat, and the powerful engine and maneuverability of the Phoenix 920 Pro XP ensures that its performance is excellent, which is why it is so popular.
With the end of the school year and finally a vacation, Edmund invited me to go out fishing with him in his newly acquired Phoenix 920 Pro XP, and I gladly agreed. It was a rare cool day, probably because of the rain in the previous days, and the air became fresh.
The first time I saw the boat, I was attracted by the red and black color scheme, and the smooth hull lines added a bit of charm to the boat.
Once we boarded the boat, we sat in the driver’s seat and the passenger seat next to each other. Edmund, of course, was our driver for the trip. He sat in the cockpit and was not really very skillful, everything was a gradual process.
Cockpit Details
Soon, he turned the key and started the engine, and with a roar of the engine, the boat made a short pause before heading out. Thanks to the powerful drive, the boat’s acceleration time was very short. The wind whistled from my ears, and I finally felt the thrill of speed.
“Wow! This is fantastic, this feels so good!” Edmund exclaimed excitedly. When I asked him about his driving experience, he told me with surprise in his voice: “I finally realized why so many people recommend the Phoenix 920 Pro XP, this boat’s outstanding performance is really great.
First of all, the captain’s seat was very comfortable when I first touched it, and the dashboard setup on the console in front of me is simple and elegant, so I am able to easily capture the parameters of the driving process.
The hot foot throttle with adjustable slider under the console is also thoughtfully designed so that I don’t have to keep my nerves tight to control the boat throttle by hand, and the hot foot takes some of the pressure off my hands.” Edmund always chattered without stop when talking about the advantages of the Phoenix 920 Pro XP.
Riding Experience
The boat was getting smoother and smoother with Edmund at the helm. I basked in the bright sunshine, put on my sunglasses, and felt the wind caressing my hair. Sitting in the passenger seat, which has the same texture as the driver’s seat, I felt the same comfort Edmund spoke of, with the high-density padding encouraging the seat to bounce back quickly.
Lots of ice stored in the cooler under the foredeck steps chilled several of our regular drinks. I casually pulled out two bottles and handed them to Edmund, who was steering the boat, to treat our hard-working captain. The water cup holders by the seats snagged the drink bottles very appropriately and there was absolutely no risk of spillage.
The roar in my ears died down and Edmund turned off the engine. I saw him walk over to the bow position and switch to trolling motor slowly approaching the spot indicated by the fish finder.
It was shrouded in the shade of the trees, and probably because of the cooler water there was a concentration of fish there. I took out our fishing gear from the spacious foredeck, put the bait in the water and waited for the fish to bite with my rod.
Of course, none of us are professional anglers, but it took a few tries to get a fish to bite. The lucky ones were placed in the live well at the back of the boat to keep them fresh.
Specification
With an overall length of around 20’6″, the Phoenix 920 Pro XP is touted as the closest thing to perfection on the water today.
The cockpit has been designed with comfort and functionality in mind. The soft cockpit seats grab your attention right from the start, and the ample space under the console ensures that your legs are well stretched out.
The many components of the console are also worth talking about, with various types of gauges showing the parameters of the boat’s maneuvering, and simple and clear dials to ensure easy access to data. In addition, the hydraulic tilt steering design contributes to the smoothness of the boat’s steering.
This boat is also very user-friendly in terms of detail settings. The spacious deck provides a large enough space for anglers to move around, and the space under the deck has been fully utilized to provide storage space for a wide range of fishing gear and life-saving equipment.
Together with the cooler design, it is just great for those who like cold drinks, and you can feel the ice-cold pleasure even when you are far away from the cooler.
Other Version
If you prefer a larger sized boat and really like the layout and features of the Phoenix 920 Pro XP, take a look at the larger Phoenix 921 PRO XP in the same series. Here’s a brief overview of the Phoenix 921 PRO XP, which I hope will help you.
The Phoenix 921 PRO XP is part of the same family as the Phoenix 920 PRO XP and has great similarities. The two boats are comparable in terms of performance, with the former boat lengthening to 21’6″ in length.
Accordingly, the larger size brings with it an increase in weight, with the 921 PRO XP’s roughly 1,950-pound deadweight being boosted by about 100 pounds compared to the other boat.
What we like about it
- The fiberglass hull rides very smoothly and quietly.
- The large 44 gallon capacity live well provides plenty of room for fish preservation.
- Hot foot throttle with adjustable slider under the console to reduce hand pressure by foot control of the throttle.
- The large capacity fuel tank enhances the range and time of the boat.
- The 250 hp minimizes the boat’s start-up time and increases sailing speed.
What we don’t like about it
- The boat, even in its spaciousness, has a smaller seating setup, making it less friendly for events with larger numbers of people.
- Fiberglass hulls are more costly to maintain and tend to crack on impact.
FAQ
1. How to carpet bass boat lids?
Some advance preparation is needed before carpeting a boat, including measuring the boat and the carpet, then cutting the carpet to the deck dimensions, and after that choosing an adhesive that works better. For bass boats using a professional marine grade carpet adhesive is preferable, and it is best to use a spray contact adhesive in the edge areas when wrapping the carpet.
2. How to make bass boat faster?
You can make a bass boat go faster by properly reducing the weight of the boat, and ways to reduce deadweight are by emptying fresh water and water storage tanks, or traveling with one less tank of fuel. Of course, replacing the propeller is also a great way to increase the speed of your boat, and the right propeller needs to match the power, weight and hull type of your boat.
3. What are the must-haves for a bass boat?
For a more functional bass boat, a spacious deck, ample storage space, and a live well system are a must. More specialized bass boats will also come equipped with trolling motors, coolers, and more.

Ranger Z520R Comanche VS Phoenix 920 PRO XP
The Ranger Z520R Comanche and the Phoenix 920 PRO XP, both with similar parameters, don’t differ much in terms of horsepower limits and boat lengths.
The Ranger’s two live wells fore and aft make it easy for anglers to drop trophies close to home, but even with the dual live wells the capacity totals only 31 gallons, nearly a quarter less than the Phoenix.
I’m most pleased with the Ranger’s wireless charging design, which is a great way to deal with the embarrassment of forgetting a charging cable.
Skeeter FXR21 Limited Edition VS Phoenix 920 PRO XP
The Skeeter FXR21 Limited Edition is more of a distinguished aristocrat compared to the Phoenix 920 PRO XP. In comparison, Skeeter’s boats have a greater deadweight, increasing to 2,275 pounds.
This heavier boat will be smoother while sailing, which is a good thing for the passenger experience. But there’s little advantage in terms of moving the boat in and out of the water, and the greater weight also results in increased fuel consumption.
The silver-gray color scheme used on this boat has a more premium feel to it visually. In fact, the Skeeter’s price tag is not bad at all, with a starting price of over $90,000, not cheap for a similar boat.
Other than that, Skeeter’s boats are designed to be more attentive on the passenger seat. The glove box with latch in front of the passenger seat can store some valuables, and this glove box has more than enough space to store even if you have more belongings.
Nitro Z21 Pro VS Phoenix 920 PRO XP
If you’re more after the ultimate in speed, then the Nitro Z21 Pro may be able to fulfill your needs. The horsepower limit of this boat shoots right up to 300HP, which is almost the limit for boats of its type.
Such a powerful horsepower brings about a further increase in the speed of the boat. This, coupled with the 55 gallon fuel storage, ensures longevity in terms of range and mileage.
In addition, the 16-degree deadrise of the Nitro Z21 Pro’s hull ensures that the boat is quite smooth while adapting to slightly choppy waters without the risk of capsizing.
