Rating (4.8/5)

Crafted from high-quality welded aluminum, Lowe boats are incredibly durable. The LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC not only focuses on practicality but also delivers excellent comfort. With its innovative side console, the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC offers simple operation while saving more space on board. The fully welded Mod-V hull ensures a smooth driving experience for such a large and stable boat.

It offers abundant storage space with four compartments, and each one is quite large. It’s more than enough to store everything you need for your trips. Additionally, the fishing chairs at the bow and stern add to the comfort when fishing. And when you want to relax, lying on the bench behind the console to sunbathe will surely bring you a sense of ease.

Driving Experience

I’m an adventurous explorer who loves hunting in different places, and I have a group of like-minded friends. We often plan hunting trips for waterfowls in various locations, but I never had a boat of my own. Honestly, sometimes riding on my friends’ boats made me feel a bit confined.

So after research and comparison, I purchased the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC. Just last week, I received the boat from the dealer and immediately planned a trip to Louisiana with my friends Thiago, George, and Charlie, as the nearby coastal bays are filled with ducks and geese.

I have driven this boat several times already. George showed a keen interest in this boat, so I gladly gave him the captain’s seat. As soon as the four of us got on board, we found our preferred spots. This boat can accommodate up to seven people, and each person can have a comfortable spot. The ample resting areas on this boat pleased me.

George also owns a Jon boat, but it’s not as spacious as this one, and his boat is a bit older. As he sat in the seat behind the console, he couldn’t help but say, “My friend, even though the console isn’t set in the middle of the boat, I can sit down very easily. I don’t feel cramped at all.” I never worried that he would find the seat uncomfortable. Because this seat can be considered one of the most comfortable padded seats I’ve ever sat on in a Jon boat.

And it even comes with a backrest, so if George gets tired, he can easily lean back while driving. The bench behind the console is also quite spacious and can accommodate three people. I sat next to him to guide him while driving.

Riding Experience

This boat also offers ample storage space. Our life jackets and emergency packs are stored in the storage area under the bow deck. Not only is the surface area generous, but it also extends inside, allowing us to store more items.

Our hunting guns and bows are kept in the storage area under the left seating on the port side of the boat. If we want to go fishing, we can also place our fishing rods inside as it is equipped with fishing rod holders.

Additionally, there is a 23-gallon livewell at the bow, so we don’t have to worry about the caught fish losing freshness after a day’s use. However, it doesn’t stop at just these storage areas. There are also accessible storage compartments under the seats where George and I are sitting. I can store my tent there for use during nighttime hunting.

Upon reaching our hunting spot, we took out the audio devices stored in the compartments. With the alluring sound of the calls, ducks gradually started showing up. Several ducks appeared in our sight. Thiago and Charlie were seated at the fishing chairs on the bow and stern, while George and I stood in the middle of the boat.

We held our hunting guns tightly; at this moment, perhaps all of us were feeling a bit nervous. We had an agreement that whoever missed the first shot would be responsible for treating everyone to dinner tonight.

With my signal, we all quickly pulled the trigger after aiming at our targets. As the ducks got startled, they scattered in all directions. Unfortunately, both Charlie and I missed our shots in this round. Looks like the two of us are destined to pay for the meal.

Specifications

The LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC is undoubtedly a reliable and spacious fishing or hunting platform, not only highly practical but also aesthetically pleasing in some aspects. For example, the well-coordinated combination of instruments and controllers on the aluminum console is simple and intuitive, making it easy to find the buttons we need.

It is worth mentioning that there is a large tinted windscreen in front of the console, providing additional sturdiness. The camouflage paint on the hull also helps the boat blend well on the water, without attracting the attention of prey.

However, it is unfortunate that the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC lacks handrails. I think having handrails would make it George’s top choice for boat replacement since he sometimes goes fishing with his kids, and handrails are essential for him. Nevertheless, the side console setup is crucial for me. It means I have enough space in the boat to set up my military tent, ensuring I can have adequate rest on the water.

Other Versions

When purchasing this boat, I also considered the LOWE ROUGHNECK 1860 SC from this series. Let me provide a brief analysis for you, so you have a wider range of choices.

LOWE ROUGHNECK 1860 SC

The LOWE ROUGHNECK 1860 SC is almost identical to the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC in terms of configuration and layout. However, its speed is slightly slower compared to the ROUGHNECK 2070 SC. This is because it can be equipped with a maximum of 90HP, while the latter offers 150HP. But fishing and hunting usually don’t require high speeds, so I guess you won’t mind. It can accommodate the same number of people as the ROUGHNECK 2070 SC, but its hull is 2′ smaller than the latter. If you and your buddies are on the larger side, it might be a bit less spacious for you.

In reality, the starting price for it is not significantly different from the ROUGHNECK 2070 SC. If your budget allows, purchasing the ROUGHNECK 2070 SC might provide you with a better experience.

If you are not entirely satisfied with either of these boats, you can also explore our homepage for more affordable and practical Jon boats. For those on a limited budget, the Cushy Drifter model is worth considering, as it has a similar layout to the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC but comes at a lower price.

What do we like about it

  • Foldable seats that not only provide great comfort while driving but also offer excellent protection when not in use.
  • The use of a side console, creates a spacious and usable area within the boat.
  • The sleek aluminum console, which is visually appealing and easy to operate.

What we don’t like about it

  • The price may not be friendly to everyone.
  • The lack of handrails in front of the console can be inconvenient for families with children going fishing.

FAQ

1. What is the price of a Jon boat?

The price of a Jon boat can vary depending on several factors, such as its size, material, features, and whether it is new or used.

Generally, smaller basic Jon boats without special features or motors can range from $500 to $2,000. Mid-sized boats with additional features like seating and flat decks may cost between $2,000 and $8,000. Larger boats with advanced features and brand-new models could range from $8,000 to $20,000 or more.

Fortunately, at NeoBoats, expensive Jon boats are a thing of the past. Feel free to contact us if you have any specific needs!

2. What is the deadrise on the Jon Boat?

Deadrise refers to the angle between the hull and the horizontal plane of a boat. This angle plays a crucial role in determining the boat’s performance, especially in terms of stability and how it handles different water conditions. Jon boats are known for their flat bottoms and excellent stability in calm waters, usually having a deadrise angle of close to zero degrees. This makes them ideal for fishing in shallow waters, such as lakes and rivers.

3. How shallow of water can a jon boat go in?

In general, small flat-bottom Jon boats can navigate in waters as shallow as 8 to 12 inches. However, the actual depth will depend on the boat’s weight, size, and the underwater terrain elevation in the local area.

LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC vs SeaArk MV 2072

The SeaArk MV 2072, like the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC, features a side console design. However, the former doesn’t have as many resting areas as the latter. If you need more resting areas, customization is required, which comes with additional costs and needs to be installed in the desired locations.

Nevertheless, SeaArk MV 2072 comes with some excellent standard features. It has a large storage compartment at the bow, and its console is made of fiberglass, which adds to its aesthetic appeal and sturdiness.

This is a feature that many Jon boats lack. If you appreciate the premium feel of fiberglass, you will undoubtedly enjoy being the captain of this boat. Additionally, there is a storage area in front of its console, which you can customize into a livewell or use to store your hunted game. Moreover, the rear seats of SeaArk MV 2072 are filled with foam, ensuring that extended seating won’t cause discomfort to your backside.

If you are someone with unique ideas and are eager to customize a distinct boat, then SeaArk MV 2072 might be a better fit for you than the ROUGHNECK 2070 SC. However, if you have multiple requirements, the cost of customization may make it more expensive than the latter.

LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC vs G3 Gator Tough 20 SC

When comparing the G3 GATOR TOUGH 20 SC to the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC, its starting price is significantly higher by over ten thousand dollars. However, if your budget allows for it, I believe it is well worth considering.

If you are someone who places a high value on boat quality, the G3 GATOR TOUGH 20 SC will fulfill many of your expectations. For one, its console allows you to easily install optional Humminbird® electronics through your dealer. This will enable you to observe fish in real-time on the screen using imaging technology, reducing a lot of burden.

Furthermore, on the front of its console, you will find a dedicated lockable tackle tray storage compartment. Not only does it provide quick access to your fishing gear, but it also helps you organize everything more efficiently. At the bow, it has two livewells separated by dividers. The livewell lids are also insulated, ensuring the freshness of bait and fish.

If I were to point out its drawbacks, I’d say that apart from having fewer comfortable resting areas, it has a few other flaws. However, its advantages, especially for fishing enthusiasts, will greatly outweigh any shortcomings.

LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC vs Crestliner 1860 RETRIEVER SC

When comparing the Crestliner 1860 RETRIEVER SC to the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC, it offers more storage areas. Despite having a smaller hull, it utilizes all its spaces effectively.

If you don’t prioritize the presence of resting areas and have minimal demand for livewells, then this boat will be a better fit for you compared to the ROUGHNECK 2070 SC. Not only is it more affordable, but it is also equally practical. It has almost the same layout as the latter but at a lower price. Its livewell capacity is only 16 gallons. However, if you prefer a spacious area and have a more generous budget, the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC will be more satisfying.

Summary

Overall, the LOWE ROUGHNECK 2070 SC is an excellent boat in many aspects. Its spacious side console and ample storage compartments make your outings more enjoyable. The left-side rod holder and storage area also enhance your hunting or fishing experience.

Additionally, it is not slow; it can be equipped with a maximum of 150HP engine, ensuring a fun and exciting ride for you and your friends.
