Overall Experience

During my childhood, one of my favorite activities was fishing in the lake near our home. I have countless memories associated with fishing, from overnight stays on boats to camping by the shore and spending days on rural riverbanks. Now that I’ve grown up and have my child, Grayson, I can see how he’s rapidly maturing, and it’s time for us to get a boat that belongs to our small family.

Considering that I mostly fish in freshwater lakes, I contemplated and decided to go with the Lowe Stinger 175C. It’s a bass boat, and I thought it would be more spacious than a Jon boat and not as costly, making it a suitable option for me.

In June, I finally got my hands on the Lowe Stinger 175C. I excitedly towed it back to my garage with my Jeep from the dealer. I appreciate its size; it fits easily into my garage, and I don’t need to worry about finding a special place for it.

When my wife saw the Lowe Stinger 175C, she was also quite satisfied. She proposed that we take it to Lake Texoma on the weekend for some fishing. I thought that was a perfect opportunity for me to experience it for the first time, as the lake is abundant with bass.

On the day of our trip, the weather was fantastic, which lifted our boating spirits even higher. After successfully launching the Lowe Stinger 175C, I had my wife and Grayson get on board first. My wife was a bit concerned that the boat might be too light and unstable, so she had her hands ready to support Grayson, who was prepared to deal with any possible rocking due to the boat’s movement. To her surprise, the boat was incredibly stable, and even with Grayson hopping aboard, there was hardly any noticeable rocking. This made both my wife and me feel much more at ease.

Driving Experience

The Lowe Stinger 175C features a console with LED lighting and a tinted windshield with a 7-inch depth finder. Beneath that is a tiltable black soft-grip steering wheel. For me, these features are more than sufficient.

Grayson sat between me and my wife, and we could both keep a watchful eye on him. My wife’s seat also had an armrest, which allowed her to brace herself in case of mild waves, ensuring stability.

Once they were settled, I pushed the throttle to embark on our fishing journey. The Lowe Stinger 175C glided smoothly on the water, just as I needed it to. We could feel a gentle breeze brushing against us, accompanied by the mild sunlight – truly a wonderful sensation.

Seating Experience

After cruising on the lake for a while, I couldn’t wait to start our fishing journey. Grayson was beside me, waving his hands excitedly. I knew that even though he might not fully understand the concept of fishing, he was eagerly anticipating my impressive casting techniques.

Once I found a suitable fishing spot and anchored the boat, I stood up and opened the rod storage compartment in front of my wife. It’s quite spacious, and even though the Lowe Stinger 175C is only 17 feet long, it can accommodate up to 8-foot-long fishing rods. However, this also means that there isn’t ample space in front of my wife. When Grayson eventually has his fishing rod, we might need to place some of the rods on the deck.

There are tackle box storage compartments on either side of the livewell at the rear of the Lowe Stinger 175C. They are easy to open and store items in, helping me keep my fishing gear organized. After arranging my hooks and lures, I quickly moved to the bow and cast my fishing line, waiting for the fish to bite.

Grayson clapped for me as he watched, as if foretelling that we would have a great catch today. But even if we didn’t catch anything, I wouldn’t be disheartened. The most meaningful part of the process is having them by my side.

Specifications

This fully welded bass boat boasts abundant fishing features and a spacious front deck. With lockable rod storage, two tournament-style fold-down fishing seats, livewells and bait buckets at both the bow and stern, the Lowe Stinger 175C provides a comfortable and enjoyable fishing experience on the water.

Whether you’re into catching bass, trout, crappie, or any other species, the Lowe Stinger 175C is equipped to accompany you confidently in these waters. Unfortunately, the price of the Lowe Stinger 175C is still quite acceptable compared to other brand-name boats.

Other Versions

If you’re seeking a spacious deck, you don’t need to regret missing out on it due to its smaller size. There’s another version of it called the Lowe Stinger 195, specifically designed for customers with space needs.

Lowe Stinger 195

The Lowe Stinger 195 comes with an 18-foot hull, yet its hull weighs only 1094 pounds. Don’t let its lightweight hull mislead you; it’s constructed from solid 0.100-gauge aluminum, ensuring exceptional durability. Additionally, it features an enlarged deck due to raised casting decks at the bow and stern.

If you’re looking for more speed, the Lowe Stinger 195’s maximum 150hp configuration will give you even more power. In terms of features, the Lowe Stinger 195 has been upgraded from the Lowe Stinger 175C.

It offers rod storage compartments on both sides of the bow, with a larger compartment in the middle, accommodating all the equipment you and your family or friends might need for a day out. However, the Lowe Stinger 195 does come at a higher price. If you want a more comfortable seating experience, you’ll need to pay a bit more.

FAQ

1. How fast will a 70 hp outboard go?

The speed of a boat with a 70 hp outboard engine depends on various factors, including the boat’s weight, hull design, and water conditions. Generally, a boat with a 70hp engine can reach speeds of around 40 miles per hour.

2. What waters can I use a bass boat on?

A bass boat is designed specifically for bass fishing and can be used on local lakes, rivers, or canals. It can also navigate through inland waterways, marshes, and estuaries, accessing all the nooks and crannies that larger boats can’t reach.

While it can be used in saltwater, it’s best to keep a bass boat in freshwater. It’s advisable not to take it into open bays, as it’s not designed for rough waters.

3. What’s the significance of a bass boat?

A bass boat is a highly specialized fishing vessel designed to transport catches quickly for weighing, especially for serious anglers or tournament-level users. It’s the preferred choice for consumers who prioritize water stability.

Lowe Stinger 175C vs Ranger RT178

The seating layout of the Ranger RT178 is almost identical to that of the Lowe Stinger 175C. However, due to its fiberglass hull, all-weather marine carpet, and premium vinyl interior, its price is higher than the latter.

But in terms of features, the performance of the Ranger RT178 is somewhat unsatisfactory. Its livewell capacity is not as thoughtful and ample as the Lowe Stinger 175C. It only has a divided livewell located at the stern, which can be somewhat inconvenient for anglers at the bow.

Additionally, the storage compartments under the seats of the Ranger RT178 are integrated. If you prefer to organize your items in separate storage, you might not appreciate this storage setup. However, everyone’s needs are different. If you’re not concerned about these drawbacks, you can choose the boat that suits you best according to your preferences.

Lowe Stinger 175C vs G3 Sportsman 1710 PFX

Compared to the Lowe Stinger 175C, the G3 Sportsman 1710 PFX places more emphasis on the spaciousness of the front deck. While the rear deck is not small, it creates a more expansive fishing platform by extending the front deck and incorporating a tight arrangement of three seats in the middle of the boat.

You can easily see that the front deck space of the G3 Sportsman 1710 PFX is ample enough to accommodate three people casting simultaneously. However, it hasn’t utilized the storage space in the bow perfectly. It only has two smaller storage compartments, which are also insufficient for storing items like life jackets.

If you’re looking to purchase a boat for long-term family use, I believe this might not be great news for you.

Lowe Stinger 175C vs Tracker Pro Team 175 TF

Compared to the Lowe Stinger 175C, the Tracker Pro Team 175 TF is better suited for anglers who seek the perfect fishing tool.

The seating layout of the Tracker Pro Team 175 TF is not the typical three-seat design that most people prefer. The passenger seat on the port side is positioned with mounting holes in between the driver’s seat, allowing you to customize the setup to better utilize the space on board.

As a 17’7″ long boat, the Tracker Pro Team 175 TF features rod storage compartments with holders on both the port and starboard sides, capable of accommodating up to ten rods. Unfortunately, it can hold a maximum of 7′ long fishing rods. Overall, its spacious layout and ample fishing gear storage make it well-suited to meet anglers’ needs on the water.

Summary

To be honest, if you frequently participate in tournaments, the Lowe Stinger 175C might not be the most suitable choice for you. While it does come with ample livewell capacity, its rod storage might not suffice for avid anglers and their friends.

However, if you have a cozy family and often embark on fishing adventures across various water bodies, the appropriate size and reasonable seating layout would be a great fit for your needs.
