Rating (4.6/5)
Tracker jon boats provided by Tracker Grizzly series perfectly meet the needs of most customers. Its fully welded construction combines performance and quality to the peak.
Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC breaks the stereotype of slow jon boats. As a large boat, it can be powered by up to 150 horses, which is more than enough for long-distance travel. The fully welded aluminum hull and the 190-floor ensure its durability. Its cross beams, deck, and hull are solidly welded together, making it capable of withstanding rough water conditions.
It stands out from typical jon boats. It not only has a multifunctional console but also a comfortable seating area, ample livewell, and storage compartments. The visible rod holders are a thoughtful addition.

Driving Experience
I am an avid fishing enthusiast who loves to go fishing during my leisure time. My friend Ben, influenced by me, has also developed a love for fishing and joined the fishing club I’m in. However, he comes from a wealthy background and has higher requirements for the fishing environment. Based on a recommendation from a friend, he purchased a Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC. As soon as he got the boat, he invited me to go fishing together at Yegua Creek on Lake Somerville. The place is known for its abundant bass. But I’ve been too busy lately and haven’t had the opportunity to join him.
Finally, last week, I had some time off and could go fishing with him. By then, he had already had the boat for a few weeks. Over the past few weeks, he had familiarized himself with it, so he said I could take the driver’s seat this time.
I have to say, it’s a big one, and it took us quite some effort to get it into the water. But Ben told me that I would find the current hardships worthwhile. That statement piqued my curiosity. As soon as I stepped onto the boat, I quickly took a seat next to the console. The first thing I noticed was the steering wheel on the console. It occupied most of the dashboard, making the tachometer and fuel gauge less prominent. However, it didn’t affect my driving because speed is not crucial when fishing on the lake. Slower movement is less likely to startle the fish.
When I started driving it, I realized what Ben meant. As the driver of this boat, I didn’t have to worry about many aspects. First of all, the intense sunlight had no impact on my operation because there was a large tinted windshield in front of me. Secondly, when I started steering, I found that the steering wheel was very responsive and easy to handle. I could easily maneuver on the lake. After driving for a while, I didn’t feel any discomfort in my seat. It was cushioned with padding underneath. I have to say, the boats I’ve driven before all had some drawbacks to a certain extent. But so far, honestly, I’m enjoying controlling this one.
Riding Experience
This fishing trip was just the two of us, making the boat feel exceptionally spacious. While I was driving, Ben sat beside me and occasionally introduced various features of the boat. He told me that the boat can accommodate up to nine people, but they can’t gather in one area because the console takes up a significant portion of the boat, making it crowded if everyone stays on board. There are also not enough cushioned seating areas, so people need to stand or sit on the deck. But for me, it was acceptable because fishing is inherently a relatively rugged environment.
With this powerful boat, we arrived at our fishing spot in no time. Ben took out our fishing rods from the rod holders on the port side. There are rod holders on the starboard side as well. If there are many people on board or if you have a lot of fishing gear, you don’t have to worry about running out of storage space. We chose to occupy the port and starboard sides separately since we had planned to fish all day. And thanks to the ample inflatable livewell on this boat, we no longer had to worry about insufficient storage space for the fish we catch.
Specification
Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC provides an excellent experience in various aspects. It features BayStar hydraulic steering, ensuring safer, more reliable, and more comfortable navigation on the water. Although there aren’t many seating areas, the cushions are made with TrueTimber® DRT camouflage, which not only helps you blend in better with the water surface but also provides visual enjoyment.
It also offers sufficient storage compartments hidden under the raised decks at the bow and stern. These compartments can be locked, giving you peace of mind. However, each storage area is subdivided into smaller sections, so you need to remember where you placed your items.
Other Versions
Compared to the Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC, the Tracker GRIZZLY 2072 CC SPORTSMAN has a higher price point. It caters more to consumers who prioritize high performance and have a smaller group size for their outings.
When you see it, you’ll truly perceive it as a behemoth. With a boat length of 21′ 5” and an elevated deck, it enables you to aim more accurately at your prey while hunting. Ten super-bright LED lights are embedded in the deck core, allowing for excellent nighttime navigation. However, when it comes to seating areas, it adheres to the functionality of a jon boat for hunting and fishing rather than pursuing seat comfort.
The console of this boat also comes with a thoughtful addition, the Lowrance® HOOK Reveal 5 fish finder, which helps you quickly locate the precise positions of fish schools. I particularly like the storage areas of this boat because they are well-organized. You can see that they are located on the port and starboard sides of the boat, without the scattered small storage compartments found in the Grizzly 2072 CC. That can be somewhat troublesome.
If you’re someone who enjoys life, you’ll certainly be pleased with the Wet Sounds® head unit with two speakers. Imagine this: after a day of activities, you’re a bit tired on the journey back. At this moment, cruising slowly on the boat while enjoying beautiful music can alleviate your fatigue. It adds a perfect touch to your day’s outing.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with an inflatable livewell. Although there is enough space in the boat to place your prepared fish buckets, it can be slightly inconvenient.
What we like about it
- Sufficient livewell capacity, perfect for a day of fishing.
- BayStar hydraulic steering provides responsive and smooth handling.
- Most storage compartments can be locked, ensuring peace of mind during outings.
- Sufficient rod holders guarantee better organization for fishing rods.
- The large and sturdy tinted windshield in front of the console.
What we don’t like about it
- While there is ample storage space, the compartments are subdivided into small areas, which can be somewhat troublesome.
- Limited cushioned seating areas, with most people having to stand or sit on the deck.
- The price is on the expensive side, not within everyone’s budget.
FAQ
- Are Tracker Grizzly Boats Any Good?
Tracker Grizzly Boats are known for their robust durability and resilience, thanks to their fully welded construction. For beginners stepping into the world of jon boats, the starting prices of the Grizzly series might not be the most budget-friendly. However, their quality is impressive, with MOD-V hulls and all-aluminum construction that ensures better navigation on the water.
- What size jon boat is best for fishing?
Typically, a jon boat that is at least 14 feet long would be the best choice for fishing. However, the size also depends on the power you require. Generally, a 14 or 15-foot jon boat with two long seats is sufficient for you and your fishing partner. If you have a large family or many fishing buddies, you’ll need a larger size.
- What paint to use on jon boat?
Most jon boats nowadays are made of aluminum, and latex or acrylic paint is suitable for painting aluminum. For hunters using jon boats, applying camouflage paint is a good idea. It helps them blend into the surrounding land and water, making it easier to achieve a successful hunting experience.

Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC vs Lowe Roughneck 2070 Archer
Compared to the Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC, the Lowe Roughneck 2070 Archer offers rich performance despite having a smaller hull.
If you often find yourself in the driver’s seat, it is more suitable for you than the Grizzly 2072 CC. The seat behind the console is elevated, allowing you to easily have a 360° view of the surrounding driving environment. Whether you prefer fishing from the bow or stern, you can enjoy the comfort of the fishing chair.
Compared to the Grizzly 2072 CC, the Roughneck 2070 Archer has fewer inflatable livewell areas. However, the 23-gallon capacity should be sufficient. Its storage compartments are also more centralized, mostly located in the bow deck storage compartments. If you’re not satisfied with that, the storage space below the seat in front of the console will also be convenient for you.
However, it doesn’t have an advantage when it comes to price. If you have a higher need for passenger capacity, then the Grizzly 2072 CC would be more suitable for you.
Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC vs G3 Gator Tough 20CC
The G3 Gator Tough 20CC is an excellent boat. With a length of 19′ 10″, it is easier to store and launch compared to the Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC.
Although this boat has a smaller capacity, each crew member on board can have their own designated spot. Next to the driver’s position, there is a foldable cushioned seat on each side. There is also a seat with a backrest in the front. Every outing feels like a small team, and the seating layout is very innovative. When you want to fish from the bow or stern, you can securely attach the foldable fishing chairs to the designated slots at the front and rear of the hull.
Similarly, it has sufficient livewell capacity. The livewell is divided into two compartments, allowing you to store different fish species separately. However, I consider its drawback to be the lack of sufficient storage space. The bow deck has enough space, which means there isn’t much room for storage compartments. The storage area next to the livewell can be easily filled up with just a few life jackets. Additionally, if you place your catch on its vinyl flooring, you’ll find that it gets dirty easily and isn’t easy to clean.
If you are concerned about its drawbacks and not entirely satisfied with the Grizzly 2072 CC, you may also consider checking out the NeoBoats website for the Fishing Wanderer, which offers similar features and more favorable options.
Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC vs War Eagle 2072LDSV
The War Eagle 2072LDSV, like the Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC, is also a spacious and large boat. However, its standout feature is the abundant seating areas that can be found throughout the boat.
The cushioned seats create a U-shaped seating area, connecting the port and starboard sides with the center of the boat. The seating positions are considerate with the addition of backrests, ensuring the comfort of every crew member. However, the seat design of this boat is not convenient for the driver. When seated at the helm, the crew members in front of the console obstruct the forward view. Standing to drive isn’t ideal either, as the position of the steering wheel is not elevated. You have to bend over to operate it, which can cause discomfort in your lower back over time.
If you require frequent breaks while hunting or fishing, this boat would be an excellent companion. The seats are spacious enough to even allow you to lie down and sunbathe.
Summary
The Tracker Grizzly 2072 CC would not be my top choice when purchasing a jon boat. Firstly, the main advantage of a jon boat is its affordability, and it’s clear that this boat exceeds the budget of many people.
Secondly, I prefer a smaller jon boat. The Grizzly 2072 CC is just too big for my liking. It can be quite cumbersome to take it out. However, different people have different needs, and if you require a large and high-speed fishing boat, it would be a great fit for you.
